Burak Emre Onuk MD, PhD
Head of Minimally Invasive Coronary Surgery
Born on January 20, 1976, in Ankara, he is the first child of a family with three children. His father, İsmet Onuk, is a graduate of Hacettepe University and works as an Anesthesia and Reanimation Specialist. His mother, Ayşe Ümit Onuk, has worked as a civil servant at TKİ. Originally, his maternal roots trace back to Taşköprü, Kastamonu, while his paternal roots are from Vakfıkebir, Trabzon, and Bayburt. However, for the past three generations, they have been associated with Zonguldak. At the age of two months, he was taken to Germany for his father’s specialization; he attended the first and second grades of primary school at Mühlacker Schiller Grundschule in Baden-Württemberg during this time, then returned to Turkey. He completed his primary education at TED Zonguldak College with a ranking of fifth, and later finished middle school and high school at the same institution with rankings of first and second, respectively. Graduating as Turkey’s 1001st in the English Medical program of Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in June 2000, he became a Medical Doctor. He then pursued his specialization in Cardiovascular Surgery at the same university, completing it in August 2006. Prior to his compulsory service, he worked at Mersin İMC Hospital for three months and completed his compulsory service at Malatya Beydağı State Hospital in 2009. During this period, he also worked part-time at Malatya Özel Gözde Hospital. He worked for nine years at Ankara Özel Güven Hospital starting from July 2009, and later established the Cardiovascular Surgery department at Echomar Hospital in Karadeniz Ereğli, providing services for two years. He began working as a Cardiovascular Surgeon at Tobb Etü Hospital in August 2020, where he continues to serve. He is unmarried and is a father to a daughter.
